  • 1.  Network adapter driver missing after conversion

    Hello,

I am having a networking issue.  I have a Windows 7 Ultimate VM that I converted using VMware vCenter Converter Standalone (VM to VM) so that I could decrease the virtual disk size.  When I power on the converted VM, I see that my internet is not working, my network adapter drivers are all gone and in the Device Manager, under "Other devices", it says "Ethernet Controller" and that the device status: The drivers for this device is not installed.  Before it was converted however, it had a Intel(R) PRO/1000 MT Network Connection and with that, the internet was working.  My question is what driver do I need to be able to connect to the internet and where can I download it?  When I create a Windows VM myself (with internet working), the network adapter comes out with a VMware Acclerated AMD PCNet Adapter.  I am not sure if I need a "Intel(R) PRO/1000 MT driver" or a "Mware Acclerated AMD PCNet Adapter" driver.  Please help.  Any thoughts are much appreciated.

    Thanks! :smileyhappy:

the drivers all all in the vmware tools source (right click and install vmware tools would prompt vmtools CD), you could point to there to get the drivers.

Do you have the VMware tools installed after the conversion?

From the VMware vCenter Converter conversion process, I checked install VMware Tools automatically afterwards, but I am going to try it again, and manually install VMware Tools this time.  It may have gotten corrupted.   Thanks for the quick advice! :smileyhappy:

I manually installed vmware tools and still am getting the same problems.. no networking device.  Might it be Windows 7 is not compatible with vmware tools?   Any ideas on alternatives?  Thanks!

    Windows 7 is compatible.

Try to remove the VMware Tools, check if there is some hardware with errors (in device management) and, if yes, remove it.

    Then reinstall them again.

PS: you can try to use different adapters to the if could be a driver problem. For example the e1000 adapter must work fine also without VMware Tools drivers.

    hi

I have the same problem and have resolved it by the following steps:

    1. Power-off the virtual machine

    2. Go to Virtual Machine setup to remove Network Adapter that was converted by VCenter Converter

    3. Restart up the virtual machine and allow VMWare Tool to install the Network adapter automatically

    Hope this help.
