My current DELL-only cluster is going to be a mix of HPE and DELL servers. Nowadays the cluster is updated with a single image of Lifecycle Manager. However, how can I update the cluster with servers of multiple vendors? I think I can't use one single image of Lifecycle Manager. Can I use multiple images on the cluster or do I have to migrate the cluster to baselines? Is it possible to convert the cluster from image to baseline?

If baselines are deprecated, how I have to manage the updates of one cluster with servers of multiple vendors?

    Thanks,

I have a similar question. We have all HPE DL380 servers, but since recent Gen 10 and Gen11 servers. At this point I had to remove our HP SPP (firmware and drivers) ISO because is only for specific generations.

Hopefully Broadcom implements multi imaging on 1 cluster

    Greatings,

The only idea I am considering is to change the image and remediate for the fist group of servers of the cluster. Then change the image and remediate the second group of servers. However, I need to change all the time the image and the clusters seems to require a remediation because of the servers the image is not valid for.

I started to create 2 empty Clusters with different images + hpe spp iso's. Every time i needed to upgrade the firmware i moved the ESXi server into the correct cluster, but after the update was done, I moved it back to it's original cluster and then he became back not compliant because he was updated by the option Firmware and Drivers Addon. Very frustrating...

Now I just update all my ESXi servers backup one by one with the hpe spp, so I spent again a lot of time...

So, what is your opinion? you think to have two empty clusters and the real cluster provides any advantage instead of having only 1 cluster and change the image depending of the group of servers you want to update?

At the end, with both solutions, the real cluster will be always no-complaint because there are servers with different images.

My opinion? There is only one solution for me and that is multi-imaging, if that is possible, that's another question..

With multi-imaging, I mean that Broadcom should be smart enough to detect if a server is Gen10, Gen11,Genxx and patch it with the correct ISO.
I already deleted my empty clusters and removed the HPE SPP firmware ISO from my current cluster.
Today we just update the esxi version with the updates-image. The firmware & drives we do again one by one booting with the iso or with HPE OneView.
That is how I work now, little bit like the 'old days'.
