  • 1.  Migration from GSX to VMWare Server

I'm reading the release notes and see that VMWare Server is not currently listed in the "interoperability" section. Is this to say that we cannot at present move our GSX-based VM's to VMWare Server Beta? If this is indeed the case, can anyone comment on whether or not this is functionality may be available upon Server's release?

There's nothing to do there... Server is the replacement (i.e. next version of) for GSX Server. It's just like opening a Workstation 4.x guest in Workstation 5.x. Server will offer you the option to upgrade your virtual hardware and configuration version. Or you can leave it in Legacy mode, and still run it on your GSX Server.

My mistake was trying to do two moves at the same time, from an older server w/GSX to a newer server w/Server. Upgrading in-place on the old server worked, the migration and upgrade did not. Moving the \*upgraded* VMs from the old machine \*did* work, however.

    Thanks.
