    any idea?

    does migration from vds to vss can only happen between vds and not vss?

    You cannot migrate from vDS to vSS . You can do it the other way around . Standard -> Distributed

    Power off your VM and change the network, then boot it back up. 

    This is documented in vSphere Networking manual
