  • 1.  Merging CPU cores into one powerful core

    Hi all,

I have physical server (HP DL180 G6) with quad-core CPU, each of 4 cores is 2.0 GHz. On guest OS I have service, that works only on one cpu-core, so I can not use my CPU in optimal way.

Is it possible to set something in vSphere, that guest OS sees CPU with one core but ~8GHz instead of 4 cores, 2 GHz each?

Is it possible in any VMware product?

    Thank you!

    John

You can select  how many cpu-core will use your OS while installing the vSphere. You can also change it from VM OS properties. Then you can easily mamange your core and memory.

It's not what I am looking for.

If I could, I would buy physical server with single-core CPU at 8GHz. But there are no such CPUs. I wonder if VM vSphere can "merge" physical cores' power into one virtual powerful core. If so, my single-thread service working under guest OS could use total power of CPU.

Wheh this single-thread service works on physical server with quad-core, it uses only one core and three are useless.

Welcome to the Community - What you are looking for is not possible - each core is seen as a seperate and can only be used individualy that cam be stacked on top of each other and seen as one massive core
