  • 1.  Memory Usage and Read Only file system on VMware ESX 3.0.1

    Hi,

    I have two problems:

    1. I have 4 host using ESX 3.0.1 using Proliant DL585 with memory 23GB on each host. I installed SLES 10 64 SP 1 in host 1, using 2vcpu and 2GB memory, but it always come up with warning on virtual machine memory usage, besides the vm usage is only 426MB out of 2GB, and the host memory usage is 13GB out of 23GB.

    2. I'm using the vm for Oracle RAC testing. I'm using vmware sharing disk with -d thick option when created the disk and using physical scsi controller type for sharing the disk. But when the system running, sometimes its always become read only file systems. Is there anything I've done wrong?

    Regards,

For the first problem, are vmware tools installed into the guest? For the second, (I don't know what OS you are using), have you checked the KB http://kb.vmware.com/kb/51306 ? Usuallyread only problems are related also with a bad disk access, which will need to be verified with your system vendor support.

Hi, Thanks for your reply. I'm using SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 10. The read-only file system only occurred in the OS I've created using -d thick options.
