    Posted Nov 30, 2010 03:03 PM

    Hi All,

I am unable to clone/deploy more than 40 vms on my server each with 1GB RAM & 1vCPU .... the server is 8 cores with 128GB RAM and 2TB data store.... I am suspecting the issue to be related with number of vCPU per core....correct me if i am wrong . Help for troubleshooting is appreciated.

    Regards

    According to http://www.vmware.com/products/vsphere/buy/editions_comparison.html

vSphere Standard and Enterprise Editions are limited to max. 6 cores per CPU

    Thank you for the suggestions.

What would be the recommended number of vCPU per Core in my scenario for the optimal performance of the guest os.

I am able to deploy more vms in my second attempt , the performance of the guest vms is very badly effected. I would like have suggestions from your side for optimal performance.

    Regards

You can monitor CPU utilization with esxtop (you can find on Internet several document about it) or graphics inside the vSphere Client.

Also there are 3rd part tools like Veeam Monitoring (with a free version limited to the last day data).

there is no standard answer for this question. Actually it depends on your VMs CPU requirements. in some scenarios you can run 3-4 VMs per core some other you may have 6-8 etc...

better to do capacity planning to know what the workload needed by your VMs.
