    Hi,

I have sql 2008 r2  box, and am trying to use veeam to backup this VM.

As this data store is over 2TBs in size, is it possible to have this backed up.

Will I have any issues running a snapshot ?

and how does esx calculates the amount of disk usage for snapshot?

    current lun setup  -

    150OS drive - 4mb block
650 GB data drive 4mb block
150 GB log drive 1mb block
999 GB data drive 4mb block
    300GB data drive 4mb block

    thanks!

    JOe.

Datastore could be bigger, but each vmdk must be smaller than 2 TB. So no issue.

Your Veeam backup server is virtual or physical?

If is physical than you have no problem... if virtual you may fill your vmdk (if you save to "local" disk).

    HI,

Thank you for your reply. Please help me understand, when you said virtual will fill up my disk, and not when I am using physcal. If my veeam server is virtual,  is it not possible to mount a cifs drive or an iscsi drive on a physcal box or san box ?  or is this not best practice.

I only say that you need space to backup all those data...

If you have only a vmdk as a destination you may need more than 2 TB... and it's not possible with a single vmdk.

A CIFS share could be a solution, of course.
