I haven't tried the new version yet, but I plan to download the trial onto a test system. This is from their "New Features" page:
"Using VMWare GSX Server, users are provided tools and instructions on how they can convert their existing machine into a VMDK file and restore recovery points to virtual environments. This can be used to replace physical environments or to test restoration options in virtual environments. They can also restore the image in virtual environments to make changes or scan it for viruses and then save the corrected image out to a file format that Backup Exec System Recovery can use to restore it to a physical system."
So Symantec is saying that it should import.
But whether or not it does, if these servers are production servers, you many need to consider whether you need to purchase System Recovery anyway. I currently use Livestate6 to image my 5 critical servers daily. The reason is the same as you: vendor installed software that I can't reinstall on my own. I also plan to P2V some of my critical servers. And I will continue to Livestate the VMs because we can't afford the downtime for the vendor to restore. For the other non-critical VMs, I plan to script them to regularly shut down so I can backup the VM directory. Not the greatest, but inexpensive. :smileywink:
