    I recently updated our HCI vsan cluster to a single image.  This cluster is running HPE DL 380 servers. The image contains the ESXi version, vendor addons and also the firmware and driver addons.   I was able to use the single image successfully.  However, I see a task that runs the compute image recommendations and that task is taking over 4 plus hours to run.  It will get to 65% and stays that way for hours.  Any ideas?

    I'm hitting the same issue. I've got ESXI 7 hosts and ESXI 8 hosts.  I had no trouble with this task updating the version 8 hosts in a reasonable timeframe, but my version 7 "compute image recommendations" task is stuck at 65% for over an hour so far.

    The good news is that my version 7 are running what I believe is the latest published version (ESXi 7.0.3 P09 23794027).  No way I'm waiting 4 hours for this task to complete on a Saturday.  I guess this is a task I should start during the week before my maintenance window.

    @labogus Check logs like:

    less /storage/log/vmware/vmware-updatemgr/vum-server/vmware-vum-server.log

    I bet you hit something like 'unmet dependencies'

    I had the same problem when applied nfnic driver listed in HCL for ESXi v7, but at the same time in the vCenter it was listed only for ESXi v8.

    Had the same problem in my lab. Not sure whats of the following helped:

    1. Remediate all hosts host profiles + disable HA + enable HA
    2. Get rid of unused stuff from VUM (detach baselines, delete unused images)
    3. And for sure check for components overrides to be sure that driver version suitable for ESXi version
