Hi There,

I just downloaded and installed the free VMware vSphere Hypervisor, but I got an email telling me I only have a 60 day evaluation.

Have I downloaded the wrong product? I downloaded the 32bit version, ESXi 3.5.0.

the current version of ESXi is 5.0, although the older versions are also available. Once you registered for the Hypervisor you should have received a license key. If you did not get it, either login to the registration page (from where you registered for the Hypervisor) again and then scroll down (your key should be shown in "Step 2") or login to My Account to find your key under "License Keys" -> "Eval".

That's not exactly how it works. Enterprise products (ESXi, vCenter, ...) will run in evaluation mode for 60 days. Unless you enter a license key, the product won't work after this period of time. However, with registering for the free Hypervisor, you'll get a license key which enables the product for unlimited use with the features included in the free license.

For desktop products (e.g. VMware Workstation), you have to enter the evaluation key which comes with the registration for usually a 30-day evaluation period.

Are you sure this is what you downloaded?

Although, as stated, older versions are still available, all the obious download sites point you at ESXi 5.0, and 4.0 is the oldest I can actively find.
