iSCSI virtual Appliance Server

Is anyone working on an iSCSI virtual appliance server? If so where is it at? Is it linux, bsd or Solaris? FWIW Solaris 10 is said to have iSCSI today. :smileyhappy:

Does anybody know of a way to get an iSCSI appliance/target to share out a SCSI attached tape drive? I know I could buy a dedicated $5000 iSCSI-to-SCSI router, but making my own router sounds more fun (and cheaper)

I am trying to present a tape drive to a VM that is on an ESX cluster. I want the VM to be able to have block level access to the tape drive even if it vMotion's to another node.

i built one on centos 4.3 with iscsi-target from sf.net.. we run a test environment with esx3 and vc2 on it. works like a charm :smileyhappy: it's not applicance-ready in the sense that the configuration is a bit specific but with a little effort it could be ready soon. i didn't enter it to the challenge since it's rather easy to set up but i could enter it to the general appliance directory if there're people interested..

openfiler beta 2.0 supports iSCSI.

I have installed it on VMWare server at home and have connected to it from Windows XP with the Microsoft iSCSI 2.0x iSCSI initiator.

I am going nuts trying to get ISCSI working on Openfiler 2 (Filer on ESX server), tried MS and Starport initiators with no luck. Do you have a any ideas? Documentation on ISCSI with Openfiler is a little bit sparse at present.
