  • 1.  Intel i5 750 CPU supports FT?

    Posted Jan 05, 2011 03:39 AM

    Hello all,

The Intel i5 750 CPU is not explicity mentioned in "Processors and guest operating systems that support VMware Fault Tolerance"

         http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1008027

I would like to know if it can be classified as "Intel Xeon based on Core i7 Microarchitecture Categories"?

If not, I just wonder why the i5 (Clarkdale) is included and the i5 (Lynnfield) is excluded.

Also, can any one explain the difference between "any processor series here can be used" and "each processor series must be used separately" under the section "Core i7 Microarchitecture Categories"? Can a Nehalem/Lynnfield processor forms FT with a Westmere/Clarkdale processor?

    Regards,

    Terui

Intel i5 750 is not on the HCL for ESX, so it also isn't supported with FT.

The "each processor series must be used separately" statement means that there is no interoperability between the processors on the list. In other words, you can't use a 36xx with a 56xx, you can only have FT pairs with the exact same processors for this set. We hope to lift this restriction in the future.

    Thanks,

    Karyn
