Installing VMware Tools on Debian Linux VM

I connected to my Vsphere client and pushed VMware Tools package to my Linux VM which was successful according to the Vsphere log. Now I don't know what to do in Debian Linux in order to install it on the O.S. What do I need to do to verify or get VMware tools installed on Linux? I checked 'dmesg' & I didn't see anything listed.

    Any help is greatly appreciated...

I would just use apt-get install open-vm-tools VMware released the tools to the community for inclusion in normal Linux distributions. Debian, Ubuntu have and maintain them.
