  • 1.  Increase disk size when a snapshot exists

I need to increase the boot disk of a SQL VM so I was planning on getting an offline snapshot, then increasing the disk and expanding into the unallocated space. I'm reading however that there are limitations for doing this with snapshots.

I'm concerned about performing the operation without a snapshot to fall back on. Can I only not increase the disk when a snapshot exists, or can I not increase the disk nor expand into the unallocated space when a snapshot exists?

Modifying partitions within a guest OS can be done independently of snapshots.

However, increasing a virtual disk is only possible for virtual disks that do NOT have snapshots.

All snap shot be deleted first then increase the disk, otherwise vm will not power on if snapshot there

Take backup of vm before doing this
