  • 1.  Identifying Disk Model

    Hi, we have an older system (that we're migrating off of, but still is in production at the moment) running ESX 4.0.0 build 171294.  Today during routine checks, a predictive drive failure was noticed in one of the bays.  I have googled it, but can't seem to find a way to identify the specific make/model of the failing device, which is in a RAID array managed by a Perc controller.  Anyone have any ideas?

    Hi,

    the ESX server probably can only see the logical RAID volume.

    I think the best chance would be to check if you can see the infos with the remote management board of the server.

    If it is a LSI adapter, then you can use the storelib binary to identify the failed disks in esx 4.0

    Use the command esxcli storage core path list -d <device>.

    The command esxcli storage core device list generates a list of LUNs currently connected to the ESXi host.

    The output appears similar to:
