    Hi all,

    I have an odd problem with an HP P800 Smart Array Controller in a vSphere 6 test system.

    The controller shows up correctly in the vSphere client, but none of the drives are. I see there is a problem with volumes of approx 1.9TB and greater, but even a single 72GB disk isn't showing up. Both controller and disk firmware at at current revisions. All was well under vSphere 5.5

    Curiously, a P400 controller, in the same system is working perfectly.

    Has anyone had any success with a P800 under vSphere 6?

    did you allready build a RAID with the disks? if not, the ESXi will not recognize the disks...

    Yes, I initially had a 2.4TB array configured. When it wasn't recognized I then researched and read about the issue with > 1.8(ish) arrays and started experimenting with ever decreasing array sizes, all the way down to a single 72GB drive. vSpere doesn't recognize any disks on the controller,

    did you allready the newewst HP Driver bundle? Did you used the ESXi ISO from HP?

    maybe it's just a driver or firmware problem

    What issue are you referring to here? ESXi used to have a problem with LUNs larger than 2TB, but it's been sovled since years ago and it now supports datastores on LUNs up to 62TB.

    Give us some configuration details of the controller (volume RAID level, settings etc) and post the output of the following commands from the ESXi shell:

    # lspci -pv

    # esxcli software vib list | grep cciss

    # esxcli storage core adapter list

    # esxcli storage core device list

    # esxcli storage nmp device list

    # esxcli storage vmfs extent list

    # esxcli storage filesystem list

    # esxcli hardware pci list | grep 'Device Class: 0x0104' -B16 -A20

    If you have the HP extensions installed (e.g. installed with HP ISO image or installed separately later on a ESXi vanilla installation) this as well:

    # esxcli hpacucli cmd -q 'ctrl all show config detail'

    # esxcli  hpacucli cmd -q 'ctrl all show status'

    Apologies for the delay in replying.

    I've had to temporarily abandon the V6 testing and revert back to V5.5, for a more pressing project.

    Hello everyone,

    I am facing the same issue with both controllers applied to my HP DL380 G5 machine and ESXi Version 6 using the latest HP ISO image.

    The P400 working as it should be and the P800 doesn't but recognized correctly as a storage adapter - without it's hard drives.

    I gathered the information as requested above and as you can see the hpssacli is showing up the drives correctly. Is it a storage driver issue?

    Missing hard disks / arrays are highlighted in bold.

    HP DL380 G5 Server + 2x MSA60 storage enclosure

    Arrays configured on P800:

    - RAID1 (2x 1TB Seagate)

    - RAID5 (8x 2TB Seagate)

    - RAID1 (2x 2TB Seagate)

    @ think this is not a P800 Problem. Try to remove the P400 and check if the ESXi 6.0 see Logical Disks.

    I have 2x DL380 G5. The first have a P400 and P800 Smart Array. Datastores on the P400 and P800. Under ESXi 5.5 all Datastores present. After install (not upgrade) 6.0 only the Datastores of the P800 present (and by installing I only see Logical Disk from the P800 as install Destination). Than I connect the cables from the P400 to the P800 and all the Datastores present. I removed the P400 and now I´m happy only whit the P800.

    The second DL380 G5 have only a P400 Smart Array. I installed ESXi 6.0 with the same Media (not HP Custom Iso) and I see all the Logical Disks.

    I think that only one Smart Array works with ESXi 6.0 on DL380 G5..... P400 OR P800

    Did anyone have a Solution to get two Smart Arrays to work?

    I have the same problem:

    HP p800 controller in non-HP server.

    ESXi 6u2

    I have the most recent vibs installed (had to modify descriptor.xml)

    Logical drive status is good.

    Device shows up in vsphere

    The control LUN is present for the controller but the logical drive is not.

    Has anyone found a fix for this?
