  • 1.  HP P400 Smart Array and ESX 4

I am trying to install ESX 4 on a machine with a P400 Smart Array (which is listed as supported). The setup goes fine until I get to "ESX Storage Device" where is says the "(list is empty)." I assume this is because there isn't a driver installed from it.

The odd thing is ESXi 4 works like a charm, but I need the full version. Any thoughts? Anywhere I can get the P400 Smart Array driver to "load custom drivers" or is there another reason the list may be empty for ESX 4 and not ESXi 4?

Try to download the driver from hp homepage.

And if I remember you can during ESX installation, put your drivers to repository!

HP does not list a VMWare driver for the card.

However VMWare does list it as compatible here:

    Ok that is strange.

I cannot understand why vmware and hp do ot have a supported driver for this.

So I think you have to use another supported one.

What do you mean by another supported one? A different storage device then the HP SMart Array 400? Or a different Driver?

VmWare says the driver is included in ESX 4 (and it is in the i version, but it doesn't appear to be in the non-i version).

    Hello Knat,

I have the same problems with network adapters. They work fine with ESXi 4.0, but on ESX 4.0 I had problems.

NICs are Intel, but desktop versions. For ESX 4.0, installation process asks for "ESX drivers". I can not find Intel driver from Intel Support website.

I changed NICs, because I did not find drivers on VMware site.

Now I use ESX 4.0, but with server NICs.

I suppose that you must find driver for P400, because I use P410 and it works without additional driver.
