  • 1.  How to turn off PXE Boot on VM machine?

    Posted Apr 21, 2020 01:42 AM

    Hello Community,

I registered a new VM from the Hosts inventory and on booting the VM is always trying to boot from the network. Normally I would hit F2 to edit the BIOS within seconds of starting. The difference  here is by the time I get a console or remote window open the opportunity to hit F2 has past. Is there another way to change the startup setting?

If you were wondering, I'm booting from a .iso from my local Host storage.

    Thanks all

    Dan

PXE is not the first boot option of a VM. You see it if there is no other bootable device found and most likely you have forgot to tick the "enable on boot" checkbox for the ISO or the ISO isnt a bootable one.

There is a option to force a VM going into the BIOS on next time in the settings.

    Joerg

Thank you for the answer. In the guest VMs setting under hardware there is a check box to boot to BIOS so I didn't need to unchecked the network connection.

Are you sure about the *.iso media is already a bootable file?!

I think your VM tried for booting with this file and then after unsuccessfully try, go again to the network boot (PXE) as the boot order...

However to remove Network boot from list of boot order in the VM's BIOS setting, please check this KB1014906 it will guide you how to do remove it from the VMX file. (Remember the VM must be power off)
