How to setup a Mac Server to run MacOS Virtual Machines?

Hey,

I am trying to setup a virtual mac environment for testing. I have a MacPro 6,1 and I'm looking to run 2 (I think 2 VMs is the Max per MacPro) MacOS Mojave 10.14 VMs off it.

What is the process to get this up and running?

Do I need to register the MacPro serial number and then install ESXi 6.7?

I have tested this already but without registering the serial number of the MacPro, but when I try to build a VM with Mojave 10.14 and try binding it to JAMF the MDM profile fails to create and I think it has to do with the Mojave VM not being registered to Apple. The binding process only works for physical macs with serial numbers registered to Apple. Is there a way to do this or is it near impossible?

Hi Chris,

It looks like you are deep in the guest operating system at this point;

I assume that:

1. The VM is up an running.
2. Has network connectivity.
3. Has VMware tools installed

It looks like you are on a supported build ESXi for a virtual guest of Mojave, but I would suggest you test it with 6.7u1 per VMware Compatibility Guide - Guest/Host Search

but it does sound like this is an issue with the virtual Mojave registering with JAMF; You may find some traction by spoofing the VM's hardware model information as suggested: Reality check - MDM capability with virtual machine? | Discussion | Jamf Nation

Have you seen an errors in the jamf.log in /var/log of the virtual machine?
