  • 1.  How to recognize I219-V LAN port to ESXi 6.5 or later

    Posted Mar 07, 2020 10:42 PM

    Hi All,

I want to use my PC as a virtual platform powered by ESXi 6.5 or later.

    My PC spec is below:

    MB : ASROCK z390 phantom gaming 4

    CPU : Intel Core-i9 9900K

    MEM : 64GB

    NIC : Intel I219-V (7)

I downloaded ESXi's image file from My VMware, boot up from this image, but Install progress was stopped cause by "No Network Adapters".

I confirmed the compatilibility this LAN module and each ESXi versions on "VMware Compatilibility Guide", but it seems that this LAN module's driver file is contained with ESXi 6.5 U2 or later versions.

And also, I used ESXi shell terminal and checked the LAN module recognizes from ESXi.

But it does not work, every time appear this error.

I don't understand why this issue happens.

Would you tell me if you have good information.

    Thank you.

    Hi,

It does not recognize your network card. You must download the version of Esxi in which you can designate the driver inside the ISO.

These are some links that can help you:

You need to apply this solution to your problem, so you need to download the .Vib file of your network card and perform the procedure.

I've already done it and it worked

    Hi AlessandroRomeo68,AlessandroRomeo68

    Thank you for your advice.

As you say, I created the customize ESXi Image use ESXi-Customizer-PS.ps1, but it didn't work.

I checked this site, it seems there has not I219-V (7) (devID:15bc) driver file.

Namely, I can't create image file what include this driver even if use this script.

I think that If create using the script, need the .vib format driver file, but I have not be able to find it.

Would you know the other ways?

    Thanks,

Your other option is to use proper, supported hardware for ESXi and not consumer, desktop hardware which is not designed for ESXi. When you use stuff like this, these are the problems you face. Get proper gear. ESXi isn't Windows 7 or Linux.

    Hi,

Yes, you need to download the driver vib file. If you don't find it, it's a big problem, because the hardware supplier has to make it available.

It has happened to me a few times that I have failed because the driver was not available.

    Hi both,

As daphnissov says, in the worst case I have to prepare the new LAN card what adaptable for ESXi.

However, I am not convinced why this installation fails even though it is listed as an applicable driver in VCG. (I guess that might be the "big problem" AlessandroRomeo68 says ...)
