Hi,
Would like to know if it's possible for a GSM Modem to be connected to a VM server?
well, if you could use a usb passthrough to the vm then that would work.
given its a gsm modem (cellphone) then that should work as most/all are usb coorect?
Ok, I just need to add the USB Controller and everything is automatic I guess... but when I plug the modem to the physical server, will my other VM's detect the same modem device when there USB Controller is also added?
a passthrough passes the device to only that vm
"each unique USB device can only be attached to one virtual machine at a time "
Saw a link for the Passthrough Configuration. But, I read that you need to reboot the physical server to have the changes to take effect? Is there another way to not reboot the physical machines, since the other VM's are already in production?
Is there really no other way to install the Modem w/o rebooting the physical machine?
We are using an USB Server (like Keyspan) to attach our GSM-Modems to the VM's. This is without rebooting the ESX-host.
The HW isn't expensive and you can move the VM in your Cluster without thinking where you must boot the VM for recognizing the USB-Device.

Have a look at the below link , useful information

Just got the device, it is a Linkpass 8200u (Ip Switch). I plugged the USB on the host server and right click the VM server, editing to add the usb controller. But, I still can't see the device.
