    Posted Mar 24, 2011 11:16 AM

    Hello!!!

    My infraestructure 4.1

vCenter  Cluster with 4 host ESXi

I've installed a virtual machine with OS Linux Centos 5.5

    VM has 2CPU , 2G_RAM, 7_GHD

I would like to increase RAM memory up to 4G.

I increase up to 4G using vSphere. But When I run MV, I execute commands as "free" or "top", and I view that only recognize 3GB

    But here:

    http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1014006

This behavior is expected and does not affect the operation of the guest negatively. Physical Address Extension (PAE) will not enable the guest to recognize all 4GB of memory.

Does anyone know  how to increase???

    Thanks a lot.

As you might know, 32bit OS' are limited to less than 4GB of RAM, unless PAE is active, and it will impact your server when it starts using over 3GBs of RAM.

I suggest you use a 64bit OS, that way you can throw all the RAM you want at it.

In any case check this out:  http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/redhat-enterprise-linux-4gb-plus-ram-support.html

If you end up enabling PAE, make sure you take a snapshot of the VM/backup the VM just in case.
