  • 1.  How to find out where my esxi OS is installed?

    Posted Mar 29, 2016 02:34 PM

    Hi,

I'm looking at a host and I'm trying to find out where the OS image is installed.

I have access to the host using either vi client or SSH. I don't have physical access to the server.

From vi client, I see 2 VMFS datastores. but that doesn't tell me anything.

If I putty ssh into the server, how can I find out where, what partition, or what drives the esxi image is installed??

    Thank you.

An easy way to find out whether ESXi is installed on the disk dives, and on which one of them is to open the datastore's properties. This will not only show information about the datastore itself, but also about the disk's partitions.

not sure what you mean. if you browse the datastores it will only show you the vms in the vmfs filesystem.

It will not list the boot partitions.

Actually, I found the answer: http://vinfrastructure.it/2011/12/esxi-partitions-layout-of-system-disk/

    Thank you.

oh no, I guess you're right. if I go to the "Properties" of the datastore it gives me the details of the other partitions.

    Thank you.
