    Hi,

I have been exposed to ESXi for about couple days and in need of your help.

I have installed ESXi on a server and want to create VMs from ISO files. (Ubuntu, Win7, ESXi)

I have beent told I can create VMs using Vcenter Converter from a client machine but I can't seem to figure out how.

I have vSphere Client and vCenter Converter Sandalone installed.

    Thank you for your help,

    Park

Hello and welcome to the forums.

Typically, you would use the vSphere client to create new VMs from ISO files.  Converter is for converting existing physical systems and/or packaged formats.

    Good Luck!

The easiest way to create a VM using the iso file is to:

    1: Create a new VM

    2: Power it up

3: Click the CD icon from the menu at the top of infrastructure client

4: Connect to iso image on local disk and select the iso.

5: Reboot the guest and boot from the cd

You can also put the iso's onto your esx datastore and then setup your guest's cd to point to the iso

    Thank you for your help.

When I clicked the CD icon, 'connect to iso image on local disk' option was greyed out.

The VM must be powered on first
