How to configure share iSCSI Storage?

  • 1.  How to configure share iSCSI Storage?

I have a Windows Server 2012 as iSCSI storage.

    After Windows Server configure.

I can add storage to ESXi Server.

But the storage isn't share storeage.

I want to configure vMotion between two ESXi server.

    What should I do?

Any reason why you don't want to configure this as shared storage?

    Cheers,

So I am going to start with an assumption that this is not a Production environment.

If it was I would recommend you buy a Supported storage array; which is on the VMware Hardware Compatibility List. That way you will not hit more significant storage bumps along your journey

For a Lab environment you may want to reference this article. However in my experience a cheap Synology or Drobo unit will provide a lower maintenance experience, and you can open cases with them if you do hit road blocks.

But for your specific question it seems like you have not enabled the Microsoft iSCSI target to allow multiple initiators to connect (add the iqn of both esxi servers to the access list) or you are some how in single initiator single target mode.

Please provide more details on what you mean by saying "But the storage isn't share storage."

I has been configure iqn to the access list.

If I don't configure share storage, It's working.

I can add LUN to ESXi Server.

About "But the storage isn't share storage."

I can add LUN to ESXi Server.

But, the LUN only be accessed by one ESXi Server.

For example, I have 3 LUN in the Storage.

    LUN1, LUN2 and LUN3.

I can add LUN1 to first ESXi Server.

I can add LUN2 to second ESXi Server.

I would like LUN3 can be access at the same time by  2 ESXi Server.

Check the below link to know how to add multiple IQNs (or IP addresses) in the existing storage target -

    I am sorry.

I want to configure between two ESXi Server share a iSCSI storage.

But, a ESXi direct connection a share iSCSI storage.

Direct connection to the share iSCSI storage from a ESXi Server is OK.

    Hi,

the vmhba65 iscsi has a correct configuration as you see the device and relative path.

Repeat the configuration on the other serves and then you have to create the datastore

On server 2012 ISCSI Configuration, please add actual IQN of both ESXI ISCSI  adaptor one by one instead IP or hostname. After that, rescan ISCSI adaptor on both ESXI hosts and check disk device has been discovered.
