  • 1.  How to cancel a task in VirtualCenter?

I have a problem with a task in VirtualCenter (2.0.2). I would create a snapshot of a VM and the task "Create Virtual Machine Snapshot" is now "In Progress" for over 10 days... How can i kill or cancel this task (rightclick and canel is greyed out in VirtualCenter)??

    Thanks for your suggestions!

Try restarting the Virtual Center service, this clears most stuck tasks. It's not disruptive to your environment in any way other than logging out any currently logged in VI client sessions.

If that doesn't work then restart the VC agents on the host:

    service mgmt-vmware restart

    service vmware-vpxa restart

Thanks, I've tried both suggestions. Yesterday I've restarted the VC and nothing happend. Now I've restarted the VC agents but the task is still "In Progess"...

I tried to make a new snapshot and that works fine. So is it critical to leave the task in that stadium? Or could that trouble other tasks?

I have seen the same thing in the past a handful of times, and in those cases restarting VC has worked. I haven't tried the VC agents since I haven't had a need to. Once note though: I had a task to start a VM "In Progress," and the VM didn't start until I released a VCB created snapshot using VCBcleanup. So just another thing to look out for.:)
