how does a Cross vCenter Server export works

Hello Everyone,

Could one you help me with insight on Cross vCenter Server export works? 

Does this move involve a downtime?

Does it create a clone and move the clone of the virtual machine leaving the source powered on or create a clone at source and move the original virtual machine?

You can migrate powered-on and powered-off virtual machines between vCenter Server instances. With Advanced Cross vCenter vMotion, you can also move or clone workloads across vCenter Server systems both between on-premises environments and between cloud and on-premises environments.

So both options are avaliable.

To add to the previous comment. Bandwidth may be an issue if you are doing this over the WAN. I have used the vCenter Converter Tool to relocate a VM from one location to another. This leaves a copy, either powered on or off, at the original location. That way I can verify it is working before removing it from the previous location.
