  • 1.  How do I go about updating BIOS on ESXi machine?

This is a multipath subject, so I'm not completely sure what to ask. I am very new to VMware vShpere. So let me give you the rundown on what I have done so far. I have put together my home lab in hopes of becoming a VCP.

    • Two Dell Optiplex 745 Intel Pentium D XP 64 bit
    • Macbook Pro Running Fusion

I have installed ESXi on both Dells and I am running vSphere Client in Fusion. I created a VM in my first ESXi server to install vCenter Server. And when I go to power on that VM so that I can install vCenter Server. Host tells me that I am unable to power on that VM because VT is not enabled. So I went to my BIOS to enable VT and I found no option to do so. I am hoping that all I need to do is update my BIOS. I bought my Dells used, and they are currently running BIOS version 2.0.8. Is it as simple as updating my BIOS to help me past this hurdle? If so... I am having a hard time finding out how to update my BIOS when I already have ESXi installed on my servers. Can it be done through ESXi? OR is there a larger problem that I have to deal with?

As far as I can tell, my hardware and software meet the requirements of vShpere. Let me know if you have any questions to help you help me.

    Please Advise. Thanks.

can you have a look here >> check in the advanced options ->Processor Options -> Virtualization Technology and enable it? also meeting minimum requirement is not suffice you will have to ensure that the hardware is in the HCL list. http://vmware.com/go/hcl

You can get the bios download from dell.com

Choose any of the menus, there is a "techinical support, drivers & parts"

Use your service tag to find the downloads, there are a lot of flavors of 745

It looks like you'll need to make a boot floppy or cd.  The download is just an exe

Updating bios from esxi is kind of not possible, You can use the floppy method. While booting of the host, select floppy as first boot device.

    It should work.
