How do I covert a server to local disk?

Hello,

We have a remote server and I need P to V it over a WAN link.  I think this will take ages and wondered how I can convert it to a local USB drive and then transport it over and import into vCentre?

Install the converter on the remote site, plug in the USB and convert the machine to VMware Workstation. This way you can create a set of files and tell the converter where to store them. Use SCSI disks,

Take the USB at your site and convert it from Workstation to vSphere in a second step.

What Option do I choose ont he first screen on the converter as I have select source, local machine, remote machine etc?

Destination: Virtual VMware Workstation.....

I still have 4.x but I'll check 5, now...

Hi, I will try this on the Windwos 2000 server.

The VMware product I can only select is 6.5, our VMware servers use 7 will this be ok?

Once I have the files, how do I import into vCenter?

You can't convert Windows 2000 with Converter 5.0, you need to use 4.0.x

What are the versions of your ESX/VC? If newer you may need to import with Converter 5.0, it will recognize Workstation 6.5 files.

Choose source type "VMware Workstation or other VMware virtual machine" and select the vmx file.
