  • 1.  How can I restore a config backup on top of deployed vCenter appliance?

    Posted yesterday

    Hi,

We are running vCenter 7 appliance in HA cluster, and during a recent upgrade to a recent minor release, we broke the vCenter. And we were able to restore the vCenter appliance using its config backup in a SFTP server. Because we had the OAM interface of the vCenter moved to a distributed switch, the restore procedure was not able to continue after the stage 1.

Eventually, we managed to bring the OAM interface to a standard switch and got back the network connectivity to its webUI and its VAMI.

Is there a way to import the config backup to this vanilla vCenter appliance?

    Thanks,

The only supported method to restore a file based backup is to deploy a new appliance see Restore vCenter Server from a File-Based Backup

I suggest you open a Sev 1 case with Global Support and see if they have any way of recommencing stage 2. or just redeploy the appliance again.
Restores can only be made to the same version of vCenter.
