  • 1.  Host storage status warning

I have a R710 and a R610 both running ESXI 6.5 and both with SSD's.  For the longest time I didnt have any issues. Now all the sudden I randomly get "host storage status" as a warning on both hosts. The VM's that reside on the hosts seem to run fine.  I tried clearing the config for the raid, physically removing the SSD's and the error goes away.  After taking the SSD's out of the server I connected all the SSD's into a dock. formatted the SSD's and checked for drive errors in which i got none.  So can someone explain whats going on?

Not enough information to go on without seeing the vmkernel logs might have to say as well as iDRAC info/logs. Could be the drives are just dying, especially if they are older SSD technology. They do have a life span.

Where is the directory for the vmkernel log location?

The strange thing is I have had these warnings since I got the server and the SSD's and I didnt receive the "host storage status" warning up until the last week or so. I took the ssd's out of my server and connected them to a dock and tested them using crystaldisk info and all the SSD's checked out fine.

This honestly might also be a bug in the product. I still have hardware related issues in one of my environments, and this is because of a vSphere bug...

Not sure if this is applicable to your issue, but I made a blogpost a while back on checking hardware sensors and issues. https://vcloudvision.com/2020/07/22/hpe-gen10-proliant-status-of-other-host-hardware-objects-error/ Might be a useful guideline for you.

you can find all logs on a host under: /var/log

    Hello

The basic thing, although it sounds repetitive, is to install VMware with the custom image from the manufacturer (Dell). Since they include specific drivers for their components.

It is not recommended to format SSD drives, certain manufacturers provide tools to check the remaining useful life of their SSD drives.

I recommend you focus on the Hardware logs to rule out that the alert message is due to the end of the useful life of the SSD disks.

SSD disks have a limited number of reads and writes.

Another option is to update the firmware of the server and its internal devices, this is recommended to be done at least once a year.
