  • 1.  HELP! Failed to lock the file. Cannot open disk. Unable to boot VM after a shutdown.

    Posted Oct 30, 2024 02:26 PM

The issue started after trying to boot the VM back up after gracefully shutting it down. We had to reboot the host (that's a separate issue), but then when trying to boot back this VM, we got this error. Other VMs within the same ESX booted up with no issues. However, this VM has a unique setup unlike the others. It has two hard disks that live locally. See screenshots below:

    showing two hard disks
    hardware settings
failed to lock, unable to open vdmk file
I am attaching the lists of files for the main disk as well as the secondary disk. (filelist_main.txt and filelist_2.txt)
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Does the VM's vmware.log contain any related information?
