    Dear VMware Team,

can u please explain or brief the following article i have found from yellow bricks

    Isolation of a slave

    • T0 – Isolation of the host (slave)
    • T10s – Slave enters “election state”
    • T25s – Slave elects itself as master
    • T25s – Slave pings “isolation addresses”
    • T30s – Slave declares itself isolated and “triggers” isolation response

    Isolation of a master

    • T0 – Isolation of the host (master)
    • T0 – Master pings “isolation addresses”
    • T5s – Master declares itself isolated and “triggers” isolation response

Above "Isolation" word reparted many time, what does it mean exactly?

what is Isolation of a slave?  is it mean if one of the salve esx host won't rec master esx host hearbeat and won't rec election traffic, then this slave esx host will follow the above point to check weather it is available on a n/w or not.

What is Isolation of a master? is it mean if master won't rec slave esx host hearbeat then it will follow the above points to check weather it is available on a n/w or not.

Please help me to understand the same.

    Regards

    Mr VMware

Do you run ESX 4 with vCenter 4.x? (As posted in the ESX 4 forum.)

If so, none of the above will apply to you, since that it the new HA workings in 5.0.

This is 5.0 specific info, but anyway:

isolation = an ESXi host without connection to the management network and not receiving heartbeats

isolation of a slave = see above, not receiving heartbeats from the master

isolation of a master = see above, not receiving heartbeats from the slave
