  • 1.  GPU passthrough to multiple VMs

AFAIK Hyper-V supports a single GPU card connected to host to passthrough to multiple VMs to share its resources, for example to enable RemoteFX on it. Is it possible to do the same thing using ESXi 5? And also if there is no dedicated GPU but only onboard graphics or even Xeon E3 Intel HD Graphics is it possible to use it inside VMs to increase perfomance in VDI environment.

Hyper-V also supports migrating VMs with passthrough'ed graphics between hosts if hosts have the same GPU model. It's really cool feature. What about VMware?

    Thx for reply.

I'm only aware of VMDirectPath (Passthrough) in a 1:1 relationship (card to VM). There are also Teradici PCoIP host rendering / offload cards available.

The same thing Citrix XenServer does. They named it 'Multi-GPU Passthrough'. But I'm strongly interested in real GPU virtualization to move graphics rendering from CPU to increase VM density.

Thx for Teradici remark. Didn't know this. But it's too expensive for me (prices about ~2.000$). I need the free (low-cost) VDI solution for about 10 users for SMB.
