    What is VMware free serial number and VMware license of ESXi? Please anybody differentiate it and signify it's importance..

    Although ESXi is free, you still need serial no. for the host which you can get for free from VMware once you register it. Otherwise, you may not able to operate your ESXi like usual. License one, you pay and normally come with SnS package, vCLI read/write capability, SNMP and etc.. Please refer this KB

    With free ESXi the remote administration can be done only using vSphere client using vCLI you would have only read access.
