  • 1.  File extension .QCOW2 on Windows

    Posted Mar 26, 2015 11:24 AM

While I was researching for solution, I saw the file extension could have something to do with vmware, thats why I am asking my question here. I would like to know how, what software should I use, to open .QCOW2 on Windows 8 OS? If not possible to to open it on this OS then how should I convert it, to which new file extension and using what so I could open that converted file on this OS? I tried with Qemu Manager software and I saw it can open this file extension but nothing happens when I open it. Thank you!

Hello and welcome to the communities.

I moved this to the VMware Converter community, but there really just isn't a good home for it.

Check out http://www.qemu.org for more info on this format.

vmroyale thank you for your reply. I checked, I use Qemu Manager and helped myself with the following video:

    Qemu Manager - YouTube

When i went to CD-ROM option in Drives tab, I chose QCOW2 file to open it. After opening it, I clicked on green button in the toolbar and this is what Console tab showed (the content):

    "Booting from cd-rom

    999mb medium detected

cdrom boot failure code : 0005

boot failed: could not read the boot disk

    Booting from hard disk

boot failed: not a bootable disk

    FATAL: no bootable device"

I use Windows 8 and I know nothing about vmware (never used it). I also never used linux/ubuntu. It doesn't seem I am able to type anything under ''fatal no bootable device''.

What could I do? I repeat again the file i am trying to open (from hard drive) is .QCOW2 extension. It would be ideal if I could just convert the file to some other extension which I could open on Windows 8. Installing Qemu Manager caused some weird icon (looks like device or something like BD-ROM, don't know whats that) to occur on ''My Computer'' window.

    Hello

VMware Converter does not support QEMU images (I have never seen this extension before your message), sorry.

You should ask in some QEMU forum.

    Regards,

    Plamen

P.S. If you manage somehow to run the image, you may then try to convert it as if a physical machine
