  • 1.  Failed upgrade ESXi 7 to 8

    Posted 21 hours ago

    Hello,

We used the Life Cycle Manager on vCenter 8 to upgrade ESXi  (5 hosts) 7 to 8 but wasn't successful.  We got this error (the ISO was from Dell Custom Image downloaded).

The upgrade has VIBs that are missing dependencies: DEL_bootbank_openmanage_10.1.0.0.4634-DEL.700.0.0.15843807 Remove the VIBs or use Image Builder to create a custom upgrade ISO image that contains the missing dependencies, and try to upgrade again.

Then we proceeded with the bundle file using command line and got the following error below. Please advise.

    esxcli software profile update -p DEL-ESXi_803.24674464-A05 -d /vmfs/volumes/PURE-NFS2/ISO/VMware-VMvisor-Installer-8.0.0.update03-24674464.x86_64-Dell_Customized-A05.zip

On platform embeddedEsx, VIB DEL_bootbank_openmanage_10.1.0.0.4634-DEL.700.0.0.15843807 requires esx-version << 8.0.0, but the requirement cannot be satisfied within the ImageProfile.

Resolved: We installed Dell Openmanage vibs many years ago and this was the caused.  Patching wasn't an issue but upgrade to version 8 was.  We followed this article and removed the vib.
