  • 1.  EVC Compatibility between E7-4800 & E5-2600v2 processors

    Posted Jun 23, 2015 08:54 PM

We would like to add Intel E5-2600v2, Ivy Bridge, processors to a vSphere 5.5 u1 cluster using E7-4800, Westmere processors.

    When checking the following link,
    http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/detail.php?deviceCategory=cpu&productid=64&vcl=true

Enhanced vMotion does not seem to be supported for the Ivy Bridge to Westmere processors.

Enhanced vMotion Capability Modes:Intel® Merom Generation

              Intel® Penryn Generation

              Intel® Nehalem Generation

              Intel® Westmere Generation

Are we reading this information correctly?  Are Westmere and Ivy Bridge CPU's not EVC compatible within the same 5.5u1 cluster? If there is supporting documentation that they are supported, can you provide the link? Thank you.

According to the specs in VMware Compatibility Guide: cpu (you can select the two CPUs and compare them), Intel® Westmere is listed for both CPUs as a supported EVC mode.
