Hi all,

A little question... we have an production ESXi host, 48 vCPU's (with HT), it has currently 9 VM's running. And I see continuously idle at 4800% (48 CPU * 100 = 4800)/
What does this say as the %RDY is also 4800..

Should I do something with this ?

there are 7 rds systems running with each 6 cpu & 24gb of memory running and they are populateD with 30 users each...will post a picture later!

memory consumption of these hosts are within the os  About 98% (Yes, that is not okay :smileyhappy: )

strange thing is, the 4800% is continously throughout the day (idle)

I don't see any problem here. Host is really doing nothing on CPU. All parameters are fine.

When you write about 4800% IDLE time, where do you see this?

Third from below.... it is not really the issue for the vm's... it is more the host doing 4800% ready...

But can cause That issues? If i look in my home lab I don't see any of these numbers in that degree

to be clear, it looks the hosts does nothing but the percentage doing nothing may cause performance slowdown of the vm's due to the %RDY/%RUN... or isn't it?

You are looking on 'idle' process. That's something you don't need to look at 99,9% of time.

You need to look on %RDY, %WAIT and etc for virtual machines processes to understand if they are ok or not regarding their CPU resources.

Thanks... the thing I was afraid off, was the way that because the host really isn't doing anything maybe that would/could affect the hosts on it... i.e. I buy a trailer for my car, and have it empty continously, when driving 130 km/hour, with a lot of wind, the trailer is very unstable, fully loaded it goes much better... that was my "feeling", CPU/mem load very low (but ~ 10 ) vm's running, but due to oversized hosts, maybe impacting the performance of the VM's due to the high idle times...
