  • 1.  ESXi5 Support for Intel DH77DF (mini ITX)

1st post and attempt to work with ESXi, so please be gentle...

I just purchased a small form factor box with the intent to run Vyatta 6.4 and a few other VMs over ESXi.

Installation of ESXi5U1 via CD appeared to behave properly, however, the disk (an couple year old Seagate SATA 750 GB drive) was unable to boot properly by itself (install CD removed). ESXi apparently created a full GPT partition that wasn't initialized to be bootable.

When booted via the ESXi installation CD, only the 2nd NIC (an Intel EXPI9301CTBLK - 82574L) was recognized, not the embedded Intel 82579V. Anyone else had success with this board or any other H77 based motherboard? I'm using an i5 3550 with 8GB of G.SKILL RAM onboard.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

See http://communities.vmware.com/message/2078944#2078944 for a bit of discussion around the 82579V as well as the various Ivy Bridge motherboards.  I'd recommed that you install ESXi to a USB stick and leave the HDD for the datastore.

    Seetee,

    Thanks for your pointer...

I resolved the bootup issue from HDD by modifying the board BIOS to support UEFI.

The issue with LAN interfaces was addressed using the referred page, using  the ESXi Customizer and the thread suggested drivers. Both LAN interfaces are now performing as they should.
