Hi,
Am I correct in saying that the HP DL580 G5 server is compatible with ESXi 5.0 update1, but will not be compatible for ESXi 5.1
Thanks
Good question. I assume you are referring to http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/vmware/supportmatrix/hpvmware.html
There could be two reasons for this. Either the host is not compatible or HP wants to sell new servers and did not validate this type (Keep in mind this is a support matrix, not a compatibility matrix). If you do have a hold on an HP representative, I'd suggest you ask him directly.

esxi 5.1 told me that dl580 g5 not support, no nx-bit. Same as dl380 g5 and ml350 g5.:smileysad:
I realise you may be waiting for an offical reply; but if it helps, I have just completed an upgrade from 5.0 to 5.1 on an HP DL580 G5. In my case I upgraded a standalone ESXi Server. ESXi was installed on a 2GB USB Key running 5.0.
My only Gottcha was as per this post...
http://blog.vmpros.nl/2012/09/17/vmware-esxi-requires-the-execute-disableno-execute-cpu-feature-to-be-enabled/
Once this option was enabled in the BIOS the upgrade went seamlessly.
Hope this helps.

HiGooose
Welcome to the communities.
Agree with AP .
you can do POC youself by using one temp server & move all vm to that .
Then test esxi 5.1 .
