    Hi all,

I'm in the process of planning our upgrade from esx 3.5 to vsphere, I'm also thinking of moving away from ESX to ESXI for the hosts. One thing I am wondering though is can I install the emc naviagent into ESXI so it can support our emc cx300 clariion. I suppose that you might not need the naviagent with v4 of esxi. Does anyone have any experience or comments on this

    Thanks in advance

Here is an older post on that exact subject. There are several links to whitepapers and blogs and it was stated that naviagent was not needed.

Ah thanks, I did spot that earlier but also noticed it was a couple of years old so just wanted to check.

    Cheers

    Dales,

ESXi, we cannot install naviagent. ESXi carries NAVIREG code by default, and this option is enabled by default. See the screenshot for same. The job of this navireg is to perform automatic registration of ESX hosts in Navisphere.

FYI...I came across an issue in update1, where automatic registration didn't worked, the same worked very well in Update2.

    Thanks,,

Starting from ESX/ESXi 4 you do not need the naviagent anymore.

The new versions can "present" the host information and make the registration on the CX automatically.
