  • 1.  ESXi Web Interface [DEFECT REPORT]

    Posted Jan 29, 2018 12:39 AM

    Hello all,

Forgive me if this is not the correct location to post this. Have a couple things I noticed whilst using the web interface for a standalone ESXi host.

    1. While editing the settings for a VM, hovering the mouse over the Memory field indicates that the field is "Hard disk". See below.

    2. While using a browser console, I had to "Reset to native resolution". I noticed that the scaling of the console was not honored after this. See below, the green dot is where I should be able to place my cursor to click the Reboot button, the red dot is where I have to place it (old location of Reboot button before native resolution reset).

You can download updated VIB for the ESXi host client from here.

    https://labs.vmware.com/flings/esxi-embedded-host-client

There is a also a page to report bugs.

Is the ESXi Embedded Host Client update needed if only vCenter is used?

I rarely connect to the hosts, and mostly always web thru the vCenter.

It's not needed per see, but there are times when you would need to use it, for example when vC is offline. Fixes are often delivered via the fling and can be updated using the provided VIB.

Is there a way to apply those "ESXi Embedded Host Client" and "VMware Remote Console VIBs" updates directly on the host, without the Update Manager install that is found on the vCenter iso?

I'm using vCenter Server 6.0 Update1b on an olderish server, because if I use any version higher than that, I get that dreaded java.exe 100% cpu issue they still haven't fixed, not even with 6.0 Update3d.

Having said that, I'm afaid Update Manager installed with the vCenter will choke the olderish server that is currently hovering at 25-40%.

You can always use esxcli to manually install and upgrade VIBS, and the ESXi embedded host client and VMRC are no exceptions.

Yet another reason to not use Windows. Sounds like now would be a good time to migrate to vCSA where this isn't an issue :smileyhappy:
