I've been having a hell of a time trying to install an operating system (any operating system) on a new IBM X3550 M3 with a PMC-Sierra RAID controller. I wanted to put Ubuntu server on it, but no Linux installs seem to have the drivers for the RAID controller. Every install I've tried can't see the internal drives, even though they are set up using the BIOS RAID utility. I've also tried the embedded hypervisor (which is ESXi 4 I believe) but I can't tell if this was an optional install and if it was installed. Either way it won't boot.
I'm now trying to install ESXi 5 from usb, and it won't see the drives either. Has anyone had any luck with this? I would really appreciate the help.
