  • 1.  ESXi 8 passthrough re-enable after reboot

    Posted Oct 14, 2022 11:38 PM

Since the upgrade to ESXi 8 on Intel NUC 11 whenever I restart the host I have to reactivate pass through on my pcie gpu.

Seems like an old issue from ESXi 7 which was fixed and was working fine but seems to be back in ESXi 8.

    Are we going backwards…..

Does anyone know how to fix this?

You most likely disabled VMKernel from claiming the device but perhaps it was re-enabled. In any case, go 3/4 down in this blog post https://williamlam.com/2020/06/passthrough-of-integrated-gpu-igpu-for-standard-intel-nuc.html for kernel option to persist the passthrough

Thanks I’ll give that a try, but in 7.0U3 this wasn’t necessary. Only on the VM itself I had to disable the the standard vga to get hardware transcoding working.
