  • 1.  ESXi 7: create a scheduled task

    Hi,

    I have an ESXi 7.0.3 free installation with 2 VMs.

    I'd like to create a scheduled task, but I don't know how to proceed.

    I found this article, but it refers to a "Configure" option that I cannot find.

    Going in Virtual Machines > [My VM] > Monitor I see a "Tasks" tab in the right pane, but here the "Actions" button is grayed.

    How can I add a scheduled task?

    I'm interested in a general solution to add a task, but my goal in this specific situation is to create a single snapshot of a single VM at a precise date/time.

    However I should mention that virtual machines that retain more than 2 snapshots at any one time will have performance issues.

    You should not create a task which regularly increases the number of snapshots.

    If you read carefully I cited the link you provided in my question. I already found it, but it says:

    "vSphere Client, navigate to the object for which you want to schedule a task. 

    Select Configure > Scheduled Tasks > New Scheduled Task."

    In the web client I cannot find this option.

    Sorry, the below is for vCenter Only. I'm seeing the same grayed out option you see on each ESXi server myself under monitor. I'll let you know what I find.

    You should click on the VM you want to create the task for. Then click Configure at the top between Monitor and Permissions. Then click on Scheduled Tasks then choose "NEW SCHEDULED TASK" See screenshot:

    Thank you mbufkin.

    Unfortunately I have the free version, so I don't have access to vCenter.

    I can't find any way of doing this unsing the ESXi.

    That's why I stated it was for vCenter. I have the paid version of ESX and a free version of ESX and can't find a way to schedule a task without vCenter. If anyone has a way please share.
