  • 1.  ESXi 6.5 no free space on device after adding disk to RAID 5 array

    Posted Jun 08, 2017 02:08 PM

Hello everyone, I'm trying to figure out why my ESXi 6.5 standalone host cannot see the free space available on my RAID 5 volume after adding a new disk. I checked the IMM and the disk space is attached to the volume and the RAID reconstruction is finished. When I go into the web ui for the ESXI host and to the Storage - Devices Tab the new disk space isn't visible so I can't extend my datastore.

I'm thinking of just restarting the host to see if that helps but I've done this many times in the past and never had any issues. Tried re-scanning and still nothing.

    Any advice?

How big is the new HDD or how big is the volume?

Is this new HDD in the VMware  HCL?

Sorry about the late reply. I restarted the host and the free space was available. I couldn't figure out how to extend the datastore with the Web UI so I used the vSphere Client and it worked. Probably not the best practice considering the vSphere Client isn't supported with 6.5 anymore...
