  • 1.  ESX related services on a host please ???

    All

Am in the process of installing a load of ESX servers and was wondering what are the specfic ESX related services installed on an ESX 4 host once its OS has been installed ??? Have searched some documentation but thought if someone out there knows exactly what services need to be running and which can be ignored it will make my life so much easier for troubleshooting. These are the ones I have so far:

vmware-mgmt - service used to manage the host

vmware-vpxa - vc mgmt agent service(connect to VC server)

vmware-autostart - keeps track of the VMs startup pattern when a host is rebooted

vmware-vmkauthd - used to authenicate ?!?! (maybe syncing up with an AD or keeps track of local accounts)

vmware-webaccess - used to run the web gui on the local esx host

vmware - hmmm not too sure about this one

Have I missed any out or are my explanations incorrect ??? If so can someone 'enlighten me' or point me to any good literature out there ?

    Thanks in advance

Besides the ones you said, xinetd must be running for multiple purpose connections. Webaccess is not needed per se.

Also, you have (not really needed):

    - sfcbd, wsman, slpd: components for cim server

    - sshd :smileyhappy:

    Thanks Marcelo

When you are referring to the "sfcbd, wsman, slpd: components for cim server" - are you referring to the OPENMANAGE agent installed locally on the server or do these belong to ESX itself ???

Don't know if it's named openmanage, I know it by cim server / pegasus hardware monitoring. Openswan are a component of that.
