  • 1.  ESX 4 - Observed IP ranges

    Hy,

I have installed the vSphere ESX 4 Version on a Dell PowerEdge R710 Server.

The Server have 4 networkcards, see here with the command: esxcfg-nics -l

    vmnic0 01:00.00 bnx2 Up 1000Mbps Full 00:22:19:c0:76:a7 1500 Broadcom Corporation Broadcom NetXtreme II BCM5709 1000Base-T

    vmnic1 01:00.01 bnx2 Up 1000Mbps Full 00:22:19:c0:76:a9 1500 Broadcom Corporation Broadcom NetXtreme II BCM5709 1000Base-T

    vmnic2 02:00.00 bnx2 Up 1000Mbps Full 00:22:19:c0:76:ab 1500 Broadcom Corporation Broadcom NetXtreme II BCM5709 1000Base-T

    vmnic3 02:00.01 bnx2 Up 1000Mbps Full 00:22:19:c0:76:ad 1500 Broadcom Corporation Broadcom NetXtreme II BCM5709 1000Base-T

    I configurate 2 vSwitches,

    - the first for the Service Console and VMkernel --> this works fine.

    - the second vSwitch for the Vlans's

In the vCenter in the configuration view (Network Adapters) --> Observed IP ranges I get no Vlan's. The Server search for Lan's and get this address 128.0.0.1-255.255.255.254.

On our other Servers we get the correct Vlan's, so the switch and Port settings are OK.

For example I move the vmnic3 to the first vSwitch and so I get the correct seven Vlan's.

Have anyone an idea, where the problem is?

    Thanks for help.

    Andi

Double check that both external connections from vmnic2 & vmnic3 are trunked correctly.

If you're able to see vlans correctly down vmnic3, just add this NIC to vswitch2.

Create a port group for each VLAN and ensure the correct VLAN tag is set.

    hi,

in the vswitch1 (second vswitch) there are alle portgroups with their vlan id's defined (installed per script).

But the vlan's are not listet in the network view or switch properties.

    thanks Andi
